My family has suffered from DD for generations and has tried various creams as well as Accutane. My suggestion is Protopic cream. I started seeing a new dermatologist last year who prescribed Tazorac for one side of my neck and on a whim prescribed Protopic for the other. I was told that the Tazorac may cause my skin to get worse before it got better and it did definitely got worse. On the other side the Protopic was not painful to use and it cleared up the rash. I began using the Protopic on both sides and it was cleared up in about a month. I now I only have to use it occassionally when I notice it coming back again. My mom, who had DD on most of her upper body got her doctor to prescribe it also. Her skin isn't quite clear yet but there has been a considerable improvement. She now only has a couple spots under her breasts.

Has anybody been able to access and try the Pinetarsol gel or soap alternative spray solution I suggested last year? I know it is manufactured in Australia and not available in America as yet - definitely available in New Zealand though. It is a pine tar product with a pine smell - easy to apply and is the most effective agent I've ever used to alleviate irritation - it is 30 years since I was diagnosed with DD so I've tried many many products and medications over the years! I live in the sub-tropics so on steamy days use the gel 2x daily - that is all I require for almost total relief, apart from the bath oil at night, (which isn't really necessary) - it is an amazing product and worth a try. Also works for any other itch, eg chicken pox. The product is manufactured by Ego Pharmecuticals - there is probably a web site. Good luck - Alice

In response to Karens post, I've been diagnosed with dariers for 10 years and have normally only had it around my ribs, and on my legs but I've suddenly (over the last couple of months) developed a rash on my neck. What is your rash like? Is it like the normal warty papules of dariers or something different? Mine isnt like any of my other Dariers spots and instead is flat, bright red and itchy, but it has days where it sort of fades (but is still present) and I dont even feel it but it is slowly spreading. Started out the size of a 5 cent piece and is now moving around my neck and down my shoulders. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Should I consider it part of dariers or look for some other cause? Any suggestions would be great!! :o)

Karen, you have the rash in exactly the same places as me. I haven't seen anyone else that posts mention that they have it under their breasts (or not that I've picked up on anyway) and my nails are a mess. E-mail me if you want to chat and swap lotions and potions.

Hi all, leaving my story due to the ôodditiesö. IÆm a 39y/o and had never had any known indication of having DD. Neither have any of my (IÆm youngest) 5 brothers nor 2 sisters nor do my father or mother recall having had any outbreaks. Having grown up on

Karen, The best thing you can do is try to avoid irritating your skin on your neck, keep it dry and avoid cloths that don't let your skin breath, I use laundry soap with no dyes and perfumes. To clear up the rash you need to see a good dermatologist. I us

I enjoy my drink of coffee and wonder how many people with DD have found that ceasing to drink coffe has helped.I am 71 years of age and have been a sufferer from the effects of DD since the teenage years. It was not until 1986 that the condition was diagnosed. Since then I have taken Tigason tablets which raise the cholesterol and eventually led to a heart attack. I no longer take them! The DD is almost everywhere except my feet, my ears and behind the ears is terrible. If cutting out coffee would really help I will give it a try.

Hi Karen....Just a quick note to give you some things to try. Most of us on this site (hopefully) have come to terms with this disease and have learned to accept the ups and downs, you have to, or you'll go crazy! Try aloe vera gel, witch hazel, goat's milk soap in the shower, Gold Bond powder under the breasts to keep sweating at a minimum, Aveeno colloidal oatmeal for the bath, olive oil for moisture in the bath and epsom salts. You'll have to read the entries on this site for some mediactions to try. I'd say go to a dermatologist to get a biopsy done to make sure you do indeed have this disease. As far as I know your children have a 50/50 chance of getting it (if your husband doesn't have it). Stay stress-free and out of the sun! Good luck, and keep posting on this site to recieve support!

Hey Michael....Thanks for being our guinea pig with the ProActiv stuff! I just wanted to remind you that like with other medications, ProActiv can make the symptoms get worse before it gets better, so maybe that's what you're seeing on that stubborn patch....Anyway, all you can do is keep on with the alotted time frame that they suggest and don't give up! Keep us posted!

Hi Martha This summer my DD was very bad. Also on the face. As I'm a lucky one only having DD mildly and only having outbreaks in the summer I don't know if this will work for you. I wash my skin in strong camomile tea avoid using a towell and let it dry on my skin 2-3 times a day. It gives some releif and the itchy feeling almost dissapears. I hope that you'll soon be better ! Best wishes Sine

As I noted last month I was beginning to use ProActiv on my skin to see if it would help my skin. After 2 1/2 weeks of using the system twice a day, I have not noticed much in the way of progress. The areas affected still are red and noticable, however it

Does anyone else have swelling from the darier's that gets raised like large bumps? I've had what look like more boils on my neck and forehead or even areas that coalesce into patches that are raised by a quarter of an inch or more. They are filled with w

Andrea, Cutivate cream we get by prescription it is fluticasone proplonate cream 0.05%. It was such a relief when I got it, I had been treating the rash with witch hazel and aloe; and gold bond lotion to no avail. I don't know why I waited so long to see the doctor I was almost out of my mind by the time I did, The rash was gone completly in 2 weeks, I was using tazorac which is a retinoid cream as well and it actually irritated the rash a bit before it cleared up. I have not had a reoccurance since. Don't slack off, if anything keep putting lotion on your skin, I use gold bond triple action medicated non scented every day or at least every other. and don't get sunburned. Hope this helps.

Lee....Can you tell me what's in Cutivate cream, so I can find a similar thing in Canada? Can you buy it in the drugstore? Thanks! Right now, my rash is almost completely gone, but I know it will come back....I have no idea what I've been doing for it to go away, I think it may be the season change, although it's just a bit cooler here in Ottawa. ??? I actually have slacked off and haven't been using any creams or anything!

hello everyone. I am wondering if anyone knows where Poppy Rosewood went? She really helped me through a bad break out this spring. And I haven't heard from her since late July. email me if you know where she may be. I have been taking kelp daily, I use tazorac and the best thing is don't sunburn, If I use sunscreen I do fine. I do believe its what you eat when you break out. I just can't figure out why I have 1 break out a year in May and then nothing. This disease is the strangest. Cutivate cream helped the rash clear up. I have never had it on my face, so I can't help with that one.

I was so excited when I found this site. I was diagnosed with Dariers and have just learned to live with it knowing that I usually know more than the doctor about what helps and what doesn't. The description of Dariers exactly matches all of my symptoms.
